Business Background
Our client is one of the largest professional service networks in the world, which advises a diverse client base on corporate transactions, restructuring and capital raising.
Business Problem
The client needed to ensure their recent hires into the corporate finance division were familiar with best practice techniques in financial modelling and forecasting. Also, the client was keen to ensure these recent hires followed a consistent approach in designing and structuring financial models used on transaction assignments.
Solution
We take our years of practice and research spanning the field of finance and condense it into bespoke training courses to train professionals on financial analysis and corporate finance mastery. And in this case, we developed a client focused training programme that equipped participants with best practice techniques in financial model construction and forecasting techniques.
A three-day course was designed and delivered to 20 participants using bespoke models and training material. The programme covered:
• Optimal excel settings and shortcuts to improve productivity
• Analysis of key financial metrics to better understand historical financial performance and current position
• Building a three-statement financial model from scratch using historical data and establishing reasonable forecast assumptions
• Building a cash sweep to allocate cash flow available for debt servicing across multiple debt instruments according to legal and structural seniority
• Integrity and error checking techniques
Business Results
Participants gained a clear understanding of best practice techniques of model design and construction. The course improved their productivity and gave them the confidence to build models from scratch and tailor them according to individual project needs. The hands-on experience was also crucial in upskilling the new talents to conduct accurate financial forecasts to aid strategic business decision making.
