Financial Statement Analysis, Modelling and Valuation (5 days)

Business Background
Our client is a London-based consulting firm that specialises in complex business and legal challenges. The client applies economics, finance, and accounting principles to a range of regulatory and commercial issues.

Business Problem
The client had recently hired six new consultants from varying academic and employment backgrounds. Several consultants had limited knowledge of accounting and valuation methodologies and lacked confidence in analysing and modelling financial data. The client, therefore, wanted to ensure each new joiner understood the fundamentals of financial accounting, modelling and valuation techniques since these were core skills needed in their day-to-day roles.

Solution
We developed a bespoke five-day course to equip recent joiners with core skills in financial statement analysis, modelling and valuation techniques. We used a single case company throughout the training, analysed its annual report and accounts, built an integrated three statement financial forecast, and estimated a target valuation range using forecast assumptions and comparable company analysis. The five-day course comprised of:

• Financial Statement Analysis and Accounting Fundamentals (1.5 days)
• Financial Modeling (1.5 days)
• Valuation techniques (2 days)

After the first three days, participants were given several days to practice their modelling skills by building their own models and submitting them for review and feedback. The course’s final two days covering valuation techniques were then scheduled a week later to consolidate the learning experience.

Business Results
Following the course, the client reported that participants demonstrated greater confidence at analysing and interpreting financial accounts, modelling and valuation techniques. Also, the client noted that the course played a vital role in improving productivity and the quality of work presented by the new consultants.
